Logitech Wireless Performance Mouse MX Review – Pros & cons
Pros
The Logitech Wireless Performance Mouse MX features accurate tracking, even on surfaces such as glass without the need for a mouse pad. This is thanks to Logitech’s Darkfield Laser Tracking technology.
The scroll wheel is nearly frictionless, and you can spin it effortlessly at an incredibly high speed. In addition, tilting it side to side results in horizontal scrolling.
The USB receiver is tiny, so you can simply plug it into your laptop once and forget about it without worry of it accidentally breaking off. It is compatible with up to 5 other Unifying wireless devices such as the Unifying wireless keyboard, so you don’t need to plug in multiple receivers.
You have 2 options for recharging the Logitech Mouse MX: via USB connection to your computer or directly via a wall socket. This flexibility allows you to recharge even when using the mouse.
This mouse is very comfortable, at least for right-handers. The unique right-handed sculpted shape fits your hand naturally and keeps it comfortable during your long computer sessions. The Logitech Performance MX is pretty large, which makes it perfect for those with fairly large hands.
This product has garnered over 400 favorable reviews on Amazon.com alone. Take a look at snippets of 2 of them:
“…It is oh so smooth and uncommonly comfortable…The kit that comes with it is smart and useful…I can still use the mouse while it is charging from the computer or the wall. Very handy! Logitech also included a USB extension cable to help desktop users reposition the USB receiver and a handy little bag to hold the power plug and cords for us notebook users. All in all, a very thoughtful kit!…(continued)”
“…I’m really pleased with the quality of the mouse. It feels excellent in your hand. The responsiveness is excellent. It works as advertised on anything from glass to the linen covered pillow that I’m using it on right now. All of the buttons are comfortable to use, and I like that the scroll wheel can toggle between freewheeling and indexed functionality…(continued)”

Cons
The unique right-handed sculpted shape makes this mouse less ideal for left-handed users, and its large size may be uncomfortable for those with smaller hands.
This mouse was touted as an upgrade over the MX Revolution, which has since been discontinued. Many negative reviews for this model are from customers disappointed that this is not truly an improvement over the previous mouse. The most common criticism is the missing “SmartShift” feature found in the older Revolution MX, which automatically switched between 2 scrolling modes depending on how fast you scrolled. Customers lament the loss of this unique yet very helpful feature in the newer Performance MX.
On the other hand, if you have never tried out the Revolution MX or gotten used to its unique features yet, you’ll likely find that the Performance MX is better than many other wireless mice at this price range. Indeed, there are a few customers who were initially disappointed that it did not seem to live up to its predecessor but have since changed their mind after getting used to it. The following is a 5-out-of-5 star rating testimonial from one such customer:
“…I received this product as a replacement for my Revolution MX about a year ago, and like many folks, I was initially disappointed…A lot of people say they miss the automatic switching from click to free scroll mode, but I don’t…My Performance MX has given me zero trouble when I want to free scroll over the last year…I have had it and its predecessor design for over five years, and it’s served me well. I find it comfortable, well-built, stylish, and functional. I have never been disappointed by a Logitech product, and despite my early reservations about this mouse, my confidence is now more than restored…(continued)”
